At first, I was thrilled that my daughter was so engrossed in a book that she seemed to really enjoy. But, I suggest every parent read this book before giving it to their daughter. This book is not appropriate for nine year olds let alone young teenagers. There is a consistent and strong negative tone throughout the book, whether it be directed towards parents, teachers, peers, siblings, herself and even dead people (book 2)and the people who mourn them. The main character is very critical of everyone and shows almost zero ability to understand why things happen in her world that don’t immediately benefit her. The main character is incredibly selfish, pretentious, critical, mean, and narrow minded.I had no idea this book was like this, believing it to be similar to diary of a wimpy kid, but was I wrong and my child suffered for it as her behavior started to reflect the main character’s. My daughter was getting in more and more trouble with us and at school - lying, being mean to sister, not listening, not doing what was asked of her, having attitude, and worst of all, seeming down and negative towards herself. Finally, I read through these books and realized they were the main reason for the change in my daughter’s behavior and attitude. After taking the books away, our daughter has returned to her normal self.Zero stars if I could...
My daughter loves these books, and even my younger daughter (who does NOT enjoy reading!) likes to skim through these and read the pages with pictures & comic strips! Although I haven't read any myself, she loves to fill me in, and I get the impression it's a good way for her to learn about "mean girls". It's been a good segue for us to talk about friends and how to handle conflict. I hope these will help her if she ever has to deal with bullying.
She loves the whole Dork Diaries series, she's 10 and in 5th grade. I had to pull her away from it!
When you find a 250 plus pages book and see your 7 year's old daughter read it in a few hours, no matter how good or bad the content is, it is an excellent book just for the reading practice opportunity. Then, if you add that the content is really good and funny and well suited for a young girl, you can't go wrong. I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in making her/ his daughter fall in love with reading from an early age
It was on her list....it was delivered quickly...no problems....it will make a child happy
My 8 year old granddaughter asked for this book after she saw it at a school book fair. She was so excited when I bought it for her and read every day until it was finished. The book was written in a fun style, complete with what looked like hand drawn illustrations. It kept her interest and now she wants more books from the Dork Diaries series. It's nice to find books that she enjoys reading.
I buy this series of books for my 10 year old granddaughter. She loves them and when a new one arrives she even turns off the "TV.l "Wow.I have skimmed thru some of them and think the story line in each book is positive for a young girl.
Daughter loves it.
