Okay, I gave this a shot because despite the other book I reviewed of the same genre by this author being horrible I was hoping it was just a fluke. Like, maybe it was just that one book, because of the weird content and concept. Everyone deserves a second chance, right? This one might be better!Wrong.I should have known by the fact that the author clearly spends maybe two seconds making covers that they don't really care about the s*** they're writing or publishing. Contrived, poorly written, HORRIBLY edited. Sex wasn't even remotely arousing. I can't for the life of me understand why people are borrowing this book at all. Don't waste your time. This site is filled with authors that have much better work, not to mention hotter sex.

I was fortunate enough to receive this book a few days ago as a Christmas gift. I read it cover to cover and really enjoyed it! I appreciated many aspects of the book: the clear writing style, the clean lines of thought, the unique application of lean concepts, the colorful photos, and the intriguing references to other seminal lean books. Since lean is very contextual when it comes to implementation, I was delighted to find much detail on precisely how lean was applied at Clay Bottom Farm. Ben effectively describes both the overarching strategies and the specific tactics that were applied over the years. These will help spark lean deployment ideas at other farms for sure.I started to get a bit concerned when the discussion of cost cutting surfaced since lean is NOT another management driven cost cutting program. But Ben effectively addressed my concerns by adding his thoughts on this in "Lean Overreached" and "Lean for More Than Profit." I have seen lean reduced to just cost cutting which resulted in bad, long-term business consequences. As Ben explains, lean is a complete culture change where "respect for people" is paramount and where daily and long-term continuous improvement is knitted into the very fabric of the organization.Excellent book. Way to go Ben and team!(By the way, this is my first book review ever.)

Many times I have been frustrated with working long hours into the evening, an employee who did not finish a task the way I asked, or growing a beautiful crop that no one wants to buy. The Lean Farm concisely introduces farmers to a valuable tool for streamlining farming operations and focusing your business on producing what is valuable to your customers. Lean manufacturing is a tool used by gigantic corporations to compete in the global marketplace, so I was wary of its applicability to a small farm context. However, the author makes a strong case for utilizing lean in farming or other small business settings. He even discusses many of the caveats that would naturally occur to a small farmer trying to adopt lean, such as letting your values influence how you implement the concept so that you achieve greater sustainability as well as profitability.The Lean Farm is a great read and well worth adding to your farming library. It will probably be most helpful to farmers or other small business people with at least a few years' experience who are struggling to make it all come together. Although it has many interesting glimpses into the author's farming practices, this book does not attempt to be an introduction to farming. If you are reading it as a beginning farmer, The Lean Farm should be one of many texts you read, though it may end up being the most valuable to the success of your business. I also think this book would also serve as a good introduction to the concept of lean for someone outside of the farming profession. After working under a lean style in mining I never thought of applying it to my new endeavour.A well written, easy reference book, with plenty of examples, the lean farm is a fun ride to a better life.Do more with less, use what you need, get rid of the burden of gadgets and earn more while saving are just some of the ideas in this book. Worth twice the money on the first read and I tag it covert to cover twice in three days.

Overall I thought it was a good book, what I felt stopped it from being a 5 star review, is I didn't feel it was great throughout the entire book. The information on the 5S highly valuable, the case studies were good, though I would have like to have seen more on farm examples of perhaps other market farms instead of dairy farm from Denmark. Also the last part chapter 12 - on mega farms, is kinda like preaching to the choir. You figure most folks who get this book are typically going to be either market farmers, or small animal producers.I'd say it was worth the money, there were valuable examples that we'll put into use on our farm.

HURRY UP NURSE 2Perhaps the author didn’t realize her reminisces, funny and sad, could have an unintended impact. ‘Hurry Up Nurse 2’ details a specialized course Dawn took at London’s Chest Hospital after she got her State Enrolled Nurse Certificate. It was while she was working here she gave up smoking and I’m sure many readers would be inspired to do the same. The patient stories are, as in Hurry Up Nurse, both inspiring, funny and sad. The patients’ chest diseases, many of them fatal, are described in a stark but very compassionate manner. It’s a good education for people who smoke or who has a loved one who smokes.Dawn herself is living in London for the first time, and enjoying all the big City has to offer. She lives in the Nurses Home, and as I lived in a few also, I was reminded strongly of how the doors in the hallway banged one after another when other nurses are on duty early and you are not and trying to sleep through that and the inevitable old gurgling pipes! There's a lot of camaraderie among young, single nurses and this is no different. Stories from outside work are amusing also, especially when she finds herself at a party for business people and tries to pass herself off as one in order to meld with the group.I enjoyed the first in the series better, but this is definitely worth a read, and I am looking forward to the 'delivery' of ‘Hurry Up Midwife’.

Ms. Brookes may as well have written this book just for me and I thank her for this. I trained for my SRN (as it was) in a large London Hospital in a Jan. 1970 set. A few years before Ms. Brookes but the environment was exactly the same except our uniforms were much more antiquated. I left England a few months after qualifying and I must say nursing in another country was not at all the same. I soon lost track of all my friends from my set so many of my memories have laid buried for decades. Thanks to this book I have been able to remember a lot about the good, the bad and the ugly of student nursing days. Pictures, atmospheres, sounds and, unfortunately, smells (especially carbolic soap) have been resurrected as I read this book. This makes me wish I had kept a diary from those days.I've bought the next book now and am off to start it.

I always love books which highlight a true to life experience. I grew up around the same time as the author and many of her experiences seem to mirror those that I had in an altogether different field. I guess it was the era. You could feel her trepidation as she made the trek to London. I'm from the U.S., so it was interesting to read about her experiences in the U.K. I have sister-in-law who were nurse during this same period, and they tell some of the same experiences from a U.S. perspective. The authors sense of humor shines through in the telling of her memoir. The style of this books makes for a very enjoyable read. Makes me wish I had kept a journal when I started my career.

I was a new nurse here in the US when Dawn Brookes book, Hurry up Nurse, 2, takes place. I know full well the trials and tribulations of being a nurse entering upon their chosen career path, as a newbee. I laughed and cried throughout this book as it resonated so closely to my practice as an advanced nurse in labor and delivery. Dr's and staff and those in charge were similar to my experiences. Hurry Up Nurse 2 was a well written and charming little walk down memory lane. Not for me - I was never a nurse. For the author. Ms. Brookes gave some funny insight into what nursing training was like in the 1970 ' and 1980's. My sister, now a retired nurse, was trained in the late 1960's and early 1970's so in a way, I can relate. I would recommend this book to anyone who just wants to relax, and enjoy a good read.

I enjoyed this look into a nurses's experience in 1980 London. As an American, it was interesting to read about nurse training in a different country and era, and I got a kick out of the chapters Sputnum, Cabbages, and Smelly Shoes. Overall a good memoir that was worth my time.

This was a gift for my granddaughter and she said it was great. She is thinking about nursing for a career.

I have to admit, I liked the first book better. I didn't get the sense of the storytelling part as much as the Nurse 1 book. This book seemed more clinical. I did enjoy reading it, just not as much.

I was expecting a little more instruction. Shows a lot of hand drawn sketches of different types of costumes... But doesn't include much instruction on how to construct these items.
